CERTIFICATES

of INSURANCE

 

Certificates of Insurance provide proof of insurance at a specific time.  Unlike a copy of the policy, which proves the insurance was in effect but not that it still is, the certificate proves to the certificate holder that the insurance is still in effect.  It also offers that, if the insurance is subsequently cancelled, we will endeavor to notify the certificate holder, so that he/she/it can make other arrangements.*

 

Certificates of Insurance are most often used by subcontractors working for general contractors, but can also be used by contractors to give their customers, or other businesses any time you need to provide proof of insurance to a third party.

 

  How to Order a Certificate of Insurance

If you require a Certificate showing the certificate holder as Additional Insured, please call us.  This may affect the policy premium.

Either the Insured or certificate holder may request a Certificate of Insurance.

Though we try to issue certificates immediately, occasionally time restraints may cause them to take a half-day to go out.  Certificates ordered in the morning should be received by mid-day; those ordered in the afternoon by early the next morning.

Certificates will be mailed (if you must have original), faxed, or e-mailed, as best suits the certificateholder.

The best time to order a Certificate of Insurance is before you start a job.  Lack of a certificate may prevent you from starting, or from being paid, or cause unnecessary withholding from your payment.  Murphy's Law being what it is, if it's Friday afternoon and you suddenly realize you need a certificate to get paid, technical problems or the Friday afternoon rush could prevent us from getting it to the contractor immediately.  Similarly, certificate holders should not wait until the onset of an audit before requesting certificates.
